Bath City Explorer

Let your journey begin…

Enjoy this self-guided tour of the historic city of Bath. History and heritage beautifully line the city's picturesque streets, with every footstep revealing a myriad of compelling cultural attractions and astonishingly beautiful architecture waiting to be discovered. It is precisely this rich tapestry of the past that significantly contributes to Bath being the only city in the UK designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This prestigious recognition is complemented by its unique second inscription as part of UNESCO's Great Spa Towns of Europe, which further highlights its significance, allure, and enduring charm. Bath may be famously known as the Roman spa town of Aquae Sulis, but the evidence of human activity around the hot springs impressively dates back as far as 8000 BC! While the Roman Baths undoubtedly serve as the celebrated hub of the city’s spa heritage, much of Bath as we see it today owes its grandeur to the innovative Georgian architects who thoughtfully designed iconic landmarks such as the Royal Crescent and the Circus. Bath is also home to a vibrant contemporary cultural scene, bustling with theatre, comedy, live music, and an array of festivals held all over the city throughout the year. Its picturesque setting amidst lush green English countryside, along with the city’s many inviting green spaces, makes Bath a truly wonderful place to explore the great outdoors and immerse oneself in nature.

These two celebrated rivals have been engaged in a delicious battle for centuries, captivating local palates and visitors alike, but which one truly reigns supreme? You’ll have to taste them both and make your own decision about which delightful bun you prefer.
